Rancho Cabrera - riding adventures in Spain.
Superb location
Rancho Cabrera
is situated in the stunning Sierra Cabrera mountains of south
eastern Spain. This area is renowned for its diversity of plant
and bird life. Rancho Cabrera is one of the oldest
Spanish farms in the mountains. Set in this area of outstanding
natural beauty, with acres of superb riding country and clear
blue skies. The views are breathtaking, with the huge gorges and vast
riverbeds, provide the perfect setting for a magnificent variety of
riding.
The Riding Options
The Cabrera Mountains have superb riding country. The going is
sometimes tough, but also exciting. Normal riding times for the
summer months are usually done in the morning. The rest of the
year we can ride at any time of the day. Rides vary from 2Hr up
to all day rides
Prices
Price per
person per week staying at Rancho Cabrera for a riding holiday during
spring 2008
from £399. The price includes Transfer from Almeria Airport,
(there is a transfer charge from Alicante) accommodation on a
Half/Board basis and includes wine or other drinks with meals, and
any other activities at the Ranch (camping trips not included). There
maybe a 5% single supplement charge for guests staying at
Rancho Cabrera if they are not able to share a room, or prefer not to
share.
Size and age of riders
Rancho Cabrera takes a maximum of 8 guests at any one time, so it is
advisable to book early. We have a minimum age of 15 years,
unless accompanied by an adult. Special Arrangement
for younger
guests have to be arranged in advance.
We have a weight
limit of 14 stone.
Food Dinner is a sociable affair, during which the day's adventures, or misadventures, are discussed with much delight. The 2/3-course menus are
accompanied by a selection of fine Spanish wines. Fresh vegetables and
local herbs are used in many
recipes.
Weather
The hot season, from
May
to

The rainy season (if any) extends from
Nov
to
April,
with the occasional evening thunderstorm. The
winter months from
Nov.
to Feb.
are often sunny, but evenings are chilly so is advisable to bring warm
clothing.
Safety
All
rides are accompanied by our well trained guides. Hard hats
will be
supplied, but we do advise you to bring your own.
Getting There
Rancho Cabrera
is a 2 hour drive south from
Alicante
International Airport, or 1 hour
drive north from Almeria.
You may choose to make your own way to us by hire car, or we can arrange for
a private transfer.
Almeria
is a free transfer, but we do charge a
transfer fee for
Alicante . (We can supply a driver for
you if you want a car but prefer not to do the driving )
Camping trips
We will supply you with your tent but you are advised to bring your own
sleeping bag. A bucket shower may be available and toilet facilities will
consist of a shovel and a view.
Riding time each day
will vary from 4 – 6 hours. Guests will be encouraged to join in the daily
running of the camp from the early morning boil the billy duty, to the
collecting of wood for the evening fire, general horse and tack care and the
horse watches. The horses are kept tethered each night, guests and/or guides
will take turns to keep watch and keep the fire burning,
